Radlometnc measurements from satelhtes m the solar portmn of the electromagnetic spectrum can be converted to measurements of surface eratance Over rugged terrain, the satelhte image must be precisely registered to a terrain data set For small areas a first-order polynomial mterpolatmn scheme is generally satisfactory for the geometric rectlficatmn If there are saturated plxels, a nearest-neighbor procedure is used for the mterpolated satellite radiance nmnbers, otherwise a cublc-convolutmn algorithm is used Path radiance and path transmittance are calculated wlth a simple spectral model, whmh reqmres an estimate of the water vapor and aerosol content of the atmosphere

A method was proposed to estimate shortwave irradiance in rugged terrain, which was integrated to accurately consider the terrain and atmospheric key factors based on fine resolution DEM and MODIS atmospheric products.
